About the Item

Produced by Hulmefa as part of their 'Propos' line, this Dutch Mid-Century desk was designed by Louis van Teeffelen in collaboration with the Tijsseling company. The top surface features generously rounded corners and sits visually suspended above the pedestal base — the floating-top effect reinforced by a deliberate gap between the surface and the drawer units. Three drawers are fitted with organically carved, recessed pulls sculpted directly from the teak. Tapered cylindrical legs anchor the piece at each corner. The back side opens to an exposed bookcase with an integrated privacy screen, giving the desk a finished, freestanding quality from all angles. Louis van Teeffelen was one of the Netherlands' most prolific Mid-Century furniture designers, working extensively with Wébé and contributing designs to manufacturers across the Dutch furniture industry. The 'Propos' line represented a structured commercial collaboration between designer, client company, and manufacturer — an early model for licensed furniture production in postwar Dutch industry. Shows wear consistent with age and use, including some wear to surfaces and previous repairs to the handles.
