About the Item

A large symmetrical desk by Silvio Cavatorta in solid walnut with on both sides 3 drawers and in the middle a larger drawer with key and lock. For whom this lock is not safe enough: there is a hidden part behind the left lower drawer to hide things. The drawers have rounded edges with which you can open them and they run very smoothly, exactly what you may expect from such a desk. The top of the desk, that stretches from above the higher middle drawer is made of wood but at the sides there are frames in which two glass plates are sunken. The glass is still original and shows the typical 'old glass' blurry see-through (visible in one of the pictures). No efforts were saved constructing the back of this desk: an extra panel, that serves purely as an aesthetical detail, is attached to the back and has a V shape which adds something extra for the one who is being interviewed. Another nice detail are the 'spoilers' at the sides of the desk that run from the front towards the end (which is very practical in case you have a ventilator or airco and you want a smooth airflow) Then, last but not least: the walnut itself! It is very bright and warm and you can clearly see that this has been aging for a few decades (7 or so). The wood is in very good condition as is the rest of the desk. Note that only solid walnut was used, no veneer! Altogether one of the highlights of our current collection. Please let me know if you want a video or more pictures or more information. The top has one burning spot of someone who put a small perculator on top of it but that totally contributes to the character and the patina and we can work on it if you want to make it a bit less visibile. The piece is marked underneath the top.
