About the Item

This is a beautiful Regency Revival dining set comprising a a beautiful Regency Revival Flame Mahogany dining table, made by the Master Cabinet makers G.T. Rackstraw, Worcester, England  and a matching set of eight Regency Swag back dining chairs, dating from the mid 20th Century. The fabulous, solid flame mahogany table can seat eight people in comfort.  The stunning starburst flame mahogany top is raised on four turned columns standing on a platform base, issuing outswept legs terminating in cast brass lion's paw feet and moving on brass castors.  The set of eight Regency Revival dining chairs features an attractive swag back design with 'drop-in' seats that have been reupholstered in the finest claret damask. There is no mistaking the fine craftsmanship of this handsome dining set, which is certain to become a treasured addition to your furniture collection and a talking point with guests at meal times. THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THAT THIS ITEM IS MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION AND DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY RESTRICTED MATERIALS. Condition: In excellent condition, having been beautifully cleaned and waxed, and the chairs reupholstered in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation. Rackstraw Ltd. was a prominent Worcester, England-based furniture maker recognized for high-quality solid wood, antique-style reproductions, particularly during the 1930s–1960s. Known for producing pieces for the RMS "Queen Mary", the firm specialized in 17th-century, Georgian, and Chippendale styles. The firm was a major supplier for the prestigious liner in the 1930s, producing furniture for the First-Class lounge, writing rooms, and galleries. During the war, the company shifted from furniture to manufacturing Spitfire wing parts, using local labour in Worcester. Often stamped, pieces from the mid-20th century are now highly sought after by collectors of vintage and reproduction furniture. Our reference: A5174a
