About the Item

Exceptional and increasingly rare modular dining / conference table designed by Bruce Burdick for Herman Miller in the 1980s. A striking example of high-tech American modernism, the design showcases Burdick’s architectural approach to furniture through its exposed aluminum framework, industrial precision, and monumental scale. The table features a substantial thick glass top resting on an intricate cast aluminum structural base with articulated support arms and pedestal legs finished in black and polished aluminum. The open framework creates a floating effect beneath the glass while emphasizing the engineering and sculptural qualities that made Burdick’s work for Herman Miller so influential during the late modern period. Originally conceived as part of Burdick’s highly adaptable modular office and conference systems, examples of this scale and configuration translate beautifully into residential dining environments and sophisticated commercial interiors alike. The table comfortably seats ten and presents exceptionally from every angle, making it ideal as a centerpiece in an architecturally driven interior. A rare opportunity to acquire one of the most iconic postmodern-era designs produced by Herman Miller. Dimensions: Length: 102.5 in. Depth: 40 in. Height: 28.5 in. Glass: 5/8 in. thick Condition: Very good vintage condition with light age-appropriate wear. Glass presents beautifully with minor surface wear consistent with age and use. Aluminum components retain an excellent original finish. The ten Hans Wegner “Heart” dining chairs shown in the photographs are also available separately, as are the pair of Louis Poulsen pendant lamps displayed above the table.
