Rift Wood Grain Dining Table in White Washed Larch by Andy Kerstens Dimensions: W 240 x D 98 x H 74 cm Materials: White washed larch, metal. Optional little feet at table legs, detail of rotation of wood grain halfway the table legs. Handmade in Belgium Available in solid Larch, oak and walnut and in 320 x 102 x 74 cm, and 450 x 106 x 74 cm. The design was created by the need for a simple esthetic with an honest construction. By duplicating all elements, the table has a stable basis and also a certain finesse. The simple idea to split the elements creates an honest and visible construction that is self-supporting, with a nod to the Japanese design method. Metal details and leg casings stand in contrast with the naturally worked wood and give the whole design more durability. Deep and tactile patines on the metal form a dialogue with the brushed wood and tell a story about its use and its traces through time. The design is available in multiple realizations in terms of material and lengths. There are also the exclusive versions in natural stone and terrazzo. The natural materials all passed through the hands of our talented Belgian craftsmen. Every element is processed and finished in Flanders to guarantee the quality we’re striving for. Rift is available in various combinations of materials and dimensions. All materials are processed and finished by hand with a lot of care the tactile finishes of the metal details blend with the wooden or stone bodies. Different finishes of the metal parts are possible. A wax enriches the patine finishes, which results in these parts changing through time. They will age more beautifully and can get darker after time. The wax treatment should be repeated every few months. The varnish finish stops the aging process and ensures that the texture and color stay the same. Therefore, the metal is resistant to external factors and very easy to maintain. Wooden parts follow te same principles. Oil treatments emphasize the natural look of The stone bodies are sawn or honed, depending on your choice. Small yet functional feet supporting the table legs, are optional on the wooden versions. Kerstens was founded in 2015 and is based in Antwerp. Kerstens is a multidisciplinary design studio with a clear vision of architecture, interior design, and furniture design. The focus is on total projects in which an affinity for craftsmanship, detail, and atmosphere are essential. This applies both to the residential market and to catering and retail projects. Our vision on interior is to create an atmospheric quality within a refined architectural design language. We strive for simplicity, a timeless, minimal design combined with rich, natural materials for a warm and sober look. The atmosphere created by a dialogue between unique objects, intriguing art, and tactile materialization results in contrast to a larger architectural whole and leads to a deeper emotion. Craftsmanship and sustainability are inextricably linked and form the basis of a project. Our work exudes a certain serenity, resulting from a monochrome and timeless signature, combined with a touch of understated luxury. Each assignment is unique and analyzed extensively to obtain a balanced basis for the concept and its further elaboration. Research into the program, use, context, layout and proportion, light and space, materialization, and budget are an important part of the process. A project is a combination of wishes, ideas, and designs in which we work in a detailed manner and on various scales. The interior is the extension of our senses and actions and is central to daily life. The personal interpretation and perception of the user, therefore, form a guideline throughout our process. Designing the smallest details is crucial to achieving a total design, whereby the mutual relationship of all elements is enhanced by one idea, concept, and design. Andy Kerstens graduated in 2015 as a Master of Science in Interior Architecture (cum laude) at the University of Antwerp. With the preparatory trajectory, in 2013 he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design at the Thomas More College in Mechelen. Freelance interior designer at Dieter Vander Velpen Architects and previoulsy at De Meester Vliegen Architects.
