About the Item

This is a superb quality Vintage Regency Revival dining table dating from the second half of the 20th Century. The tabletop was crafted in stunning flame mahogany.  The table has two leaves which can be added or removed as required to suit the occasion and is raised on a pair of gun barrel bases with quadruple outsplayed reeded legs fitted with elegant brass toes and castors. Capable of seating twelve people in regal comfort, it is an extraordinary piece of furniture which will add splendour to any room. THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THAT THIS ITEM IS MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION AND DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY RESTRICTED MATERIALS. Condition: In really excellent condition, having been beautifully cleaned, polished, and waxed in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation.   Dimensions in cm: Height 74 cm x Width 295 cm x Depth 112 cm  - Fully extended Height 74 cm x Width 202 cm x Depth 112 cm  - Leaves removed Dimensions in inches: Height 2 foot, 5 inches x Width 9 foot, 8 inches x Depth 3 foot, 8 inches - Fully extended Height 2 foot, 5 inches x Width 6 foot, 7 inches x Depth 3 foot, 8 inches - Leaves removed Flame Mahogany Thomas Sheraton - 18th-century furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany." The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree. Our reference: A5016
