About the Item

Minimalist 1970s oak frame square end table or side table with faux black slate top, and unique bridle joint connections. I believe it is from the partnership between Pierre Mazairac and Karel (Charles) Boonzaaijer for Pascoe in the mid to late 1970s. Their first major commercial breakthrough for Pastoe was the Model SE15 oak dining group in 1976, which this table very much resembles. No labels, have matching pair of rectangular end tables available in separate listing. From the estate of local mid-century architect Marvin A. Ginsberg, who's house was filled, with other masters of MCM design, like Barcelona chairs by Mies van der Rohe for Knoll, Charles Eames LCM, Rosewood furniture by Paul Hundevad, Eero Saarinen tulip table, Charles Pollack chairs and more. The partnership between Pierre Mazairac and Kare (Charles) Boonzaaijer represents one of the most influential collaborative chapters in post-war Dutch design. They moved away from the thin, industrial metal-wire or heavily lacquered plywood trends of the previous decade, celebrating wide, robust proportions and exposed, beautiful wooden joinery. Mazairac and Boonzaaijer both graduated from prominent Dutch design academies and honed their skills at various regional furniture manufacturers before anchoring their careers at UMS Pastoe in Utrecht. During the mid-to-late 1970s, they operated under the guiding corporate ethos of Pastoe—which had spent decades establishing a reputation for austere, functionalist, and modular wooden furniture. However, the duo began introducing softer, wider, and more expressive geometry to Pastoe's seating lines.
