About the Item

Very impressive, fully functional industrial rotating guillotine for slicing large cheese wheels. Constructed in solid light-hued wood with metal joints, it is assembled from three separate parts: the rectangular base, the large, sharp blade with a large wooden handle, and the round rotating top. The base features four bearings that allow the top to rotate. The round top has equidistant markings on the sides to allow cutting even slices (there is a little red "flag" for the exact position ). The blade is very sharp and has an up-and-down movement enabled by the large, rounded handle. This guillotine was bought from a large food import firm in Mexico City in business since the late 1930s. It has no label or mark that could allow identification of provenance or manufacturing year; however, the blade is marked "Sollingen, Germany". Besides its very practical use, this robust, amazing, one-of-a-kind item could make a great display for cheese and cheese-related products. It can be disassembled for easier, more compact shipment.
