This matched pair of tall pedestal tables is executed in the Jansen manner, combining slender, architectural metalwork with crisp neoclassical animal-form mounts. Each table is built around three tapering, dark-toned legs—finished in a satin, steel-like surface—that curve outward with a deliberate spring before terminating in gilt hoof feet. The legs rise to meet a circular top support formed as a brushed brass gallery ring fitted with a round glass surface, allowing the sculptural hardware to read cleanly through the plane of the top. At the upper junctions, the supports transition into cast brass ram’s heads with curled horns and finely chased fleece textures, the heads projecting outward beneath the rim in a classic French taste vocabulary associated with Empire and later revival decoration. A second brass ring, fixed lower on the structure, ties the legs together and functions as a stabilizing collar and display/rest element, reinforcing the tripod stance while echoing the circular geometry of the top. The form aligns closely with the enduring Maison Jansen aesthetic—an influential Paris decorating house celebrated for refined historicist design languages and luxury materials—while the “Made in Italy” marking shown on the metalwork supports the Italian production typical of many late 20th century Jansen-style furnishings made for the international market.
