This beautiful coffee table, topped in dappled brass and supported by blackened steel legs, is not merely a work of supreme craftsmanship, this beautifully amorphous creation functions with an elegant simplicity befitting its form, pulling apart into three modular pieces. Master metalsmith Douglas Fanning's extra long console features an extended series of topographical crests spanning two thirds of its otherwise smooth top and spilling over onto one side. Fanning, always eager to explore new territories in form and material, has in this case completed his elegantly spare bronze composition in a brooding patina, setting up a contrast between his cool, industrial aesthetic and the geological formation intimated. Drawing from his knowledge of art and design (in addition to his architectural expertise), Douglas Fanning continually pushes the boundaries between form and physics to create clean, fluid, yet uncompromisingly daring pieces. In short, his multi-disciplined work harnesses a seamless creative dialogue between intellectual exploration and the organic realization of ideas.
