About the Item

A superb late 19th century olive wood occasional table by renowned furniture maker William Gerrard of Lyndhurst. The table is often referred to as the ‘Gypsy’ cricket table with three turned mahogany legs with a faux bamboo effect inspired by the designs of the Aesthetic Movement. The circular top is unusual as it is formed in olive wood with a second under tier in mahogany adding both practical space and structural reinforcement. The top has been marked with a verse from a Hebrew prayer along the outer edge which only adds to the charm and history of the table. The overall profile of the table is light, diminutive in size and extremely practical. A rare survivor. English, New Forest circa 1890.
