About the Item

An elegant French Louis XV-style marquetry nightstand or side table, featuring a graceful kidney (bean) shaped top edged with a delicate pierced brass gallery rail. The top is beautifully inlaid with a diamond parquetry ground centered by a symmetrical foliate marquetry motif of scrolling vines, bellflowers, and blossoms rendered in contrasting fruitwoods. The case houses two drawers, each fitted with a matching marquetry medallion and a single brass knob pull, flanked by cast gilt bronze chutes running down the front corners. The whole is raised on gracefully curved cabriole legs that taper elegantly before terminating in gilt bronze sabots, lending the piece a light, sinuous silhouette characteristic of the style. Drawing on the flowing curves and delicate floral ornament of the Louis XV Rococo idiom, this charming table would work beautifully as a bedside table, lamp table, or occasional accent table in a traditional, transitional, or eclectic interior.
