18th Century Georgian Mahogany Fold-Over Tea Table with Cabriole Legs

18th Century Georgian Mahogany Fold-Over Tea Table with Cabriole Legs

Located in Reading, Berkshire

An elegant Georgian mahogany fold-over tea table, dating to the 18th century and displaying a rich, warm colour and attractive aged patina. The hinged rectangular top is finished with a finely moulded edge and shaped projecting corners. When closed, the table works beautifully as a compact side, lamp or occasional table, while the fold-over top opens to provide a larger surface suitable for serving tea, displaying decorative objects or use as a small games table. The front is fitted with a single frieze drawer retaining a brass swan-neck handle. The table is raised on a distinctive combination of shaped cabriole front legs and slimmer rear support legs, all terminating in rounded pad feet. Fluted corner details and the gently shaped apron add further refinement to the restrained Georgian design. A versatile antique table of useful proportions, suitable for a drawing room, entrance hall, bedroom or traditional library interior. Condition Good antique condition consistent with age and use. The mahogany has developed a warm, naturally aged surface with historic marks, scratches, variations in colour and wear to the polish. Some wear and minor historic repairs may be present around the hinged top and moulded edges. The brass handle shows gentle age-related patination. Please refer closely to the photographs, which form part of the condition report.
