About the Item

This refined pair of round side tables showcases the kind of restrained elegance and architectural clarity associated with mid-century French and American modern design. Executed in a sophisticated combination of brushed steel and warm brass, each table features a circular glass top set within a brass gallery rim, supported by slender cylindrical legs joined by an X-form stretcher. The balance of crisp geometry and subtle metallic contrast gives these tables a tailored, timeless presence that feels both decorative and purposeful. The design bears strong stylistic similarities to the work of Maison Jansen, particularly in the use of brass gallery rims, glass tops, and refined proportions, as well as to pieces by John Vesey, known for his elegant steel constructions accented with brass detailing and architectural cross-bracing. While no maker’s mark is present, the quality of materials, precision of construction, and overall design language firmly place these tables in the tradition of high-end mid-century modern production from the 1960s–1970s. Exceptionally versatile in scale and function, these tables work beautifully as side tables or end tables flanking a sofa or lounge chair, but are equally effective as lamp tables, cocktail tables, small coffee tables, or accent tables. Their compact footprint and open structure make them especially well suited for bedrooms, reading nooks, living rooms, executive offices, creative studios, and contemporary workspaces, including use as discreet Zoom or meeting tables. The durable metal construction also gives them strong commercial appeal for boutique hotels, private lounges, members’ clubs, and refined retail environments. The brass retains a warm tone with gentle, authentic patina, while the steel bases remain crisp and architectural, grounding the design visually. The glass tops keep the overall composition light and airy, allowing the sculptural bases to read almost as functional art. Whether styled together as a matching pair or placed separately throughout an interior, these tables offer flexibility, sophistication, and enduring design relevance. Ideal for Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, Modern Classic, Contemporary, and Transitional interiors, this elegant pair represents a polished and timeless addition for collectors, interior designers, and clients who appreciate understated luxury and architectural furniture design. MEASUREMENTS: H 22“ x W 26" x D 26" CONDITION: Good vintage condition with overall light age and patina. One table has more patina and fading on lower brass elements. Glass has light scratches and one deeper scratch along with light age and wear. New glass or stone can be fabricated upon request. Ready for immediate use.

Vladimir Kagan for Grosfeld House Set of Nesting Tables, Very Rare 1950s, Signed

Vladimir Kagan for Grosfeld House Set of Nesting Tables, Very Rare 1950s, Signed

By Grosfeld House, Vladimir Kagan

Located in Los Angeles, CA

An extremely rare collectors set of nesting tables by Vladimir Kagan for Grosfeld House (1950's USA), fully restored. This set is signed underneath the center table with original Grosfeld House sticker label, and documented in early Grosfeld House advertisements. This Mid-Century Modern set of four tables feature a Walnut coffee table with sculptural legs, and three nesting tables that have similar sculpted legs with a formica top and a brass accent leg. Ideally used as either a coffee table or side / end table that can convert when needed to provide additional surface space for guests, entertaining, arts and crafts projects, and more. Vladimir Kagan's works have been highly valued by collectors and art / design investors, and his earlier works in the 1950s for Grosfeld House and Kagan-Dreyfuss are among the most sought after by 'purist collectors' like myself. Why do I prize his 1950s works above all else? I can write a short book on this, but one easy to explain reason is that this was a period unlike the rest of his career, where items produced in this time are hallmarked within that period - a distinction that his later works lacked. Essentially, everything post the early 60s blended together with the decades thereafter. A novice Kagan collector is content with anything by Kagan, even items produced by Directional and American Leather Company, but for true connoisseurs of Kagan, simply put: the 1950s was the bees knees. This table set was acquired along with several other Grosfeld House pieces also designed by Kagan, including a caned desk (now sold to a very famous celebrity client), leather swivel desk chair with sculptural base, rare and coveted four-seat sofa with swiveling lounge chair, small caned...
