About the Item

A tripod with animal claws grasping a ball serves as a base at the foot of the table, decorated with a small striated column and a vegetable bulb. The mechanism that allows the top to be folded is on top of this foot, and the top of the table has a round shape and profile with curves flanked by straight sections. American furniture owes a great deal to English, as the following example shows: it follows the so-called Jorge II style, named after the monarch during whose reign it was created (born in 1683 and died in 1760), and is based on models borrowed from architecture Roman of the Renaissance. · Size: 78 x 78 x 72 cms.

Mahogany and Metal Extensible Dining Table. England, 19th Century

Located in Madrid, ES

Rectangular table extendable by panels and mechanical system manually operated by crank, made of carved mahogany wood and metal elements (leg ends, mechanism, sheaves). The top board has been left smooth, with a slight recess towards the edges that curves the area and extends through the corners of the piece of furniture, contributing to the comfort of its use as a dining or conference table; The legs present an outstanding work of carving and turning, with a stipe shape and a memory of architectural columns for its combination of moldings, highlighting the polygonal base and the fact that it retains the wheels or small metal sheaves that help to move the piece of furniture. Both the wood chosen for the table (mahogany), and the lack of decorative elements (which enhances the quality of the material and the lines) are common features in the old English furniture...
