About the Item

An imposing and expressive late 18th/early 19th century plaster wall hanging mask modelled as a neoclassical or mythical grotesque, painted with a dark shellac finish. With a prominent, furrowed brow and large nose between locks of hair and an abundant beard, this wall mask resembles the grotesque faces of a garden fountain or an architectural keystone. The figure’s deep-set eyes glare downwards and are framed by sharply arched brows. Fitted with a wire to the reverse, this impressive and commanding face is ready for hanging on an interior wall – perhaps above the door to a private home office to ward off nosy guests or in an entrance hall to create an instant talking point!

Antique Style Plaster Plaque Depicting Bucranium on Stand

Located in Wormelow, Herefordshire

This 20th century antique style plaster plaque depicts a bucranium in striking high relief. This embellishment was commonly used in classical architecture and Doric temples of ancient Rome and later during a neoclassical revival in the late Georgian period. This 20th century plaster depiction is an intricate example of the bucranium, modelled in plaster in high relief and mounted on a bespoke steel stand for display...
