About the Item

Antique Russian Orthodox icon of Christ Pantokrator hand - painted with tempera on canvas stretched on wooden panel with velvet textile backing. Icon is covered with original Gilt 84 Silver hand - engraved and chased Silver oklad and placed in original gilt wood and glass kiot. Christ is holding a book open to the Gospel of John 13.34 : " Заповедь новую даю Вам : Да Любите Друг Друга ". Early 20th century, Silver oklad with Russian Imperial period 84 Moscow Kokoshnik hallmarks used 1908 - 1917. Master's mark 'АЖ ' in Cyrillic / unknown. Inscription on back side of kiot in Swedish states that this icon was purchased in Russia in the year 1920 by Sea Captain Arvid Magnusson. Icon without kiot measures : 13.35cm x 11 cm x 1.6cm deep thick. Weight: 124 gr. Kiot measures 24cm x 21.5cm x 6cm deep. Weight with kiot : 1.473kg Overall fine condition with minor cracks on inner paspartu of kiot. Kiot has a crack on back side.
