About the Item

Collection of twelve Italian archaeological engravings depicting monumental antique candelabra from celebrated classical collections, including references to the Villa Albani, the Museo Pio-Clementino, the Museo Clementino and other European collections. Printed on laid paper from engraved copper plates, each sheet displays the characteristic plate mark and finely executed line engraving typical of early nineteenth-century Italian archaeological publications. The engravings retain their original Italian inscriptions identifying the ancient models and are uniformly presented in later black-painted wooden frames with gilt liners, creating an impressive decorative installation while preserving their scholarly character. An old pencil inscription reading “C. Antonini 1837” appears on the sheets. This inscription is believed to be a later collector’s or cataloguing annotation rather than part of the printed plate, and the exact publication from which the engravings originate remains to be identified. Each engraving is presented in a matching black-painted frame with gilt liner, measuring 36 cm high by 26 cm wide. Uniformly framed, the twelve works are intended to be displayed together as a cohesive wall installation, creating a refined Grand Tour-inspired presentation with strong architectural presence.
