About the Item

An exceptional 17th-century Italian Baroque religious painting, attributed to the Old Master painter Giovanni Battista Gaulli, known as Baciccio or Baciccia, one of the leading artists of the Roman Baroque. This dramatic devotional composition is identified as a study related to The Triumph of the Name of Jesus, the celebrated fresco in the nave ceiling of the Church of the Gesù in Rome. The work reflects the theatrical spirituality of the Baroque period, with luminous divine radiance, swirling clouds, angelic figures, and a strong sense of movement and sacred elevation. Gaulli was closely associated with the Roman artistic world of the 17th century and is renowned for combining ecstatic religious expression with a masterful use of light and shadow. His works and frescoes are visible in important Roman churches, including Il Gesù, Santa Agnese, and Santi Apostoli. He was also active as a portraitist within the papal circle. Presented in an ornate giltwood frame, this painting has a powerful decorative presence while retaining the scholarly and historical interest of an Old Master attribution. Its rich Baroque composition makes it ideal for a maximalist gallery wall, a classical interior, or as a striking stand-alone devotional artwork.
