About the Item

A pair of figural acrylic and dry media with collage on board paintings by listed artist Alexander Gore b.1958. Energetic abstract lines form figures and faces with kind expressions, which contrast with the moody color palettes of black over muted pinks, yellows and orange-brown hues. Each piece is signed across the bottom, set in a cream matt with a contemporary gilt frame. Larger piece measures 22.75"W x 1"D x 32.75"H, smaller piece measures 22.75"W x 0.75"D x 30.75"H. In the back an article about the artist reads; “Alexander Gore was born in 1958 in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he spent the first 21 years of his life. From the age of five, he began frequenting museums in St. Petersburg and in regional towns near the Baltic and Black Seas. He sought to absorb every aspect of the rich world of Russian art and culture. Upon reaching his 21st birthday, he was prepared to embark on an artistic career. However, he felt inhibited by the structured and rigid nature of the Soviet state. He completed technical college, majoring in the changing physical appearances of different gases. In 1980, Alexander immigrated to New York City, continuing his search for an arena where he could attain full artistic expression. The overwhelming feeling of freedom he experienced after arriving in New York led him to abandon the established centers of the cultured East Coast. He traveled for many months in Central America, exploring the primitive beginnings of man, art and life. The tribal culture of the local people is visible in Alexander's current works. After 10 years of painting in New York, Alexander moved to Miami. The southern climate clarified the form of his works. The great contrast of the light and shade prompted him to paint weightless forms unknown to nature. He discovered a parallel to his own vital energy and sensual impulses among the southern shores of the United States. His style of art reflects a powerful surrealist influence and incorporates his many travel experiences. He paints abstract forms, weightless in time and space. His art expresses an alternative view of reality-one without borders or limitations. "The straight line does not exist in nature. Only the curved line has energy,” says Gore. Currently, his collection contains 300 oil paintings, 20 sculptures, 2000 original works on paper (not mechanically duplicated), two movie scenarios, and a book of poetry. Approximately one third of the oil paintings and graphic works are located in art institutions and in private collections.”
