About the Item

A 19th Century river shore oil painting, transitioning from the a Barbizon School to the Impressionist Style, with wild flowers and sand in a low angle. A well conserved painting by Auguste Michel Nobillet of the style of Emile Louis Vernier, his Master. Oil on canvas. ‘A Nobillet’ signature (lower right). Auguste Michel Nobillet was born in 1850 in France. In 1865 his father acquired the estate and castle of Trémigon near Combourg, whose park bordered by ponds inspired the landscape painter on numerous occasions. He was a student of Emile Louis Vernier and Paul Vayson. He obtained an honorable mention in 1882. Member of the ‘Artistes Francaises’ from 1884 to 1914 and his work was represented at the Salon de la Société. Died in 1914. He was a pupil of the progressive artist Gustave Moreau- then later Aime Morot, Francois Flameng and Fernand Cormon at the school of fine art in Paris. Boucart specialised in painting architectural subjects, landscapes with animals and urban landscapes. He is especially known for his depictions of country lanes, his well observed interiors and all the waterways and architecture of Venice- a subject he became particularly fond of. He showed his work at the Salon of French Artists in Paris from 1913 to 1939, and went on to become a member there, receiving an honourable mention in 1928 and a knighthood for his services to art in 1937. His work is represented in the museums of Angouleme and Niort.
