About the Item

Charming French coastal scene depicting figures gathered beside a white horse on the shoreline, with fishing boats in the distance and a rocky cliff rising to the right. The painting is executed in oil on panel and signed “Aubert” in the lower right-hand corner. The work is presented in an ornate period-style giltwood and composition frame decorated with finely detailed foliate motifs. The richly patinated frame complements the warm tones and atmospheric character of the coastal landscape. French school, late 19th to early 20th century. The precise identity of the artist has not been definitively established. Wear, craquelure, small losses and age-related marks are visible on the frame, consistent with its age and character.
