A charming and lively oil painting by the French animal painter Alfred Arthur Brunel de Neuville, an artist beloved for his refined and playful depictions of animals.
In this atmospheric work, we see three curious kittens in a rustic courtyard. One kitten is intently licking a plate clean, whilst the other two watch with fascination and play with a colourful ball. The soft textures of the fur, the lively poses of the animals and the subtle play of light demonstrate the craftsmanship for which Brunel de Neuville is renowned. The background, featuring a stone wall and steps, lends the scene a warm, homely atmosphere.
