A quintessential example of French high-society portraiture from the Belle Époque, this 1907 work is defined by its magnificent, deep-profile gilded salon frame. Crafted in France, the frame is a masterpiece of period woodwork, featuring lush scrolled acanthus leaves and ornate floral moldings. The heavy 4 cm depth and rich 5.5 cm width create a dramatic "window" effect, while the original gold leaf has aged into a deep, warm patina that only centuries can produce. The portrait, protected behind its original glass, is signed and dated "F. Marteau 1907". It depicts a young girl in formal attire—a rare example of the French "Portraitiste-Coloriste" tradition. In this luxury medium, a photographic base was meticulously hand-painted with watercolors and gouache to achieve the soft, ethereal quality of a classical painting.
