About the Item

A Set of 3 Framed Black & White Coney Island Photographs, Leonard Lewis 1999. A trio of unsigned black and white photographs of two famous Coney Island, New York landmarks - the Parachute Jump and the Cyclone - taken by New York photographer Leonard Lewis in 1999. The Parachute Jump is a 250-foot-tall open-frame steel tower built in 1939 for the New York World’s Fair at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park and was the tallest structure at the fair. In 1941, after the World's Fair, the jump was moved to its current location on Coney Island, in the Steeplechase Park amusement park. The ride ceased operations in the 1960s and is now an official New York City designated landmark and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Thunderbolt was a wooden roller coaster designed by John Miller and located at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. It operated from 1925 until 1982 and remained standing until it was demolished in 2000. The house was a real residence, built in 1895 as the Kensington Hotel and featured briefly in Woody Allen’s 1977 film Annie Hall as the boyhood home of Alvy Singer. The photographs are mounted on a wood frame with a wide cream matte surround and expensively framed in matte silver brushed steel that is is affixed to the wooden frame on each of the four sides with steel screws. Condition: A couple of minor surface scratches on the frames otherwise excellent condition. Measurements: Photograph H 17-1/2” x W 13-1/2”, frame H 25” x W 21”; frame depth 1-1/2” Weight: Each framed photograph weighs 10 lbs.
