About the Item

Original color lithograph by French artist Henri Mauduit (1917–2006), pencil signed by the artist and inscribed "E.A." (Épreuve d'Artiste/Artist's Proof). The composition exemplifies Mauduit's geometric abstract style with bold colour and carefully balanced forms. Presented in its original silver aluminum frame, which complements the modernist aesthetic and is believed to be original to the period. A well-preserved example of the artist's graphic work, suitable for collectors of postwar French abstraction and modernist prints. Some highlights of his career include: He studied sculpture under Charles Despiau before attending the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, where he worked in the studios of sculptors Marcel Gimond and Georges Saupique. Early in his career he created sculptural works, including capitals for the Saint-Pierre Church. Around 1950, he shifted his focus almost entirely to painting. His later abstract style was influenced by Kazimir Malevich, Piet Mondrian, and the Bauhaus movement. He also produced monumental ceramic murals, including a large installation for the former French Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications building on Avenue de Ségur in Paris. His work was exhibited in Paris and internationally, with solo exhibitions in cities such as Paris, Miami, Montreux, and Gothenburg. He received awards including a medal from the City of Paris (1975) and gold medals in Rome (1981) and Venice (1982).

Wear consistent with age and use. Very good vintage condition overall. The original Marie-Louise liner exhibits visible age-related staining and patina, consistent with the artwork's age.
