About the Item

This exquisite antique panetiere, or breadbox, was crafted in Normandy, France circa 1860. Designed to hang on the wall above a buffet, the Louis XV–style piece is richly carved in solid walnut and topped with a gracefully arched bonnet featuring a hand-carved basket of flowers flanked by leafy branches. The front is dressed with eight bronze hooks adorned with angelic cherub faces and a central putti mount, adding both beauty and function. The lower apron showcases a scalloped outline and carved rosette motif, typical of northern French craftsmanship of the period. The piece retains its original warm walnut patina and is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. A pair of sturdy iron rings at the back allow for easy wall mounting, ideal for displaying copper pots, utensils, or towels in a French country kitchen. Measures: 52.5” W x 7.5” D x 26” H.
