About the Item

Wonderful 19th Century Indian kalamkari, made for the Persian market. Circa 1830. A hand block printed cotton textile using natural vegetable dyes including madder. The central boteh motifs are surrounded by peacocks and meandering flowering branches with a border of lions hunting deer. Originally hung on the walls of a chateau in South West France. Backed in a madder red cotton with old darned repairs In an as found antique condition with some old repairs to its left side.
