About the Item

This exquisite 19th-century Limoges enamel plaque, attributed to the renowned Samson workshop, is a fine example of the revivalist craftsmanship inspired by Renaissance artistry. The plaque is meticulously crafted on a copper base. The scene depicts three elegantly dressed figures in a pastoral setting beneath a starlit sky, an allegorical composition rendered in vivid tones of cobalt blue, crimson, and gold. Each figure’s costume is detailed with fine gilt accents, while the expressive gestures and delicate facial features demonstrate the painter’s mastery of the Limoges enamel technique. At their feet rests a small dog, attentively gazing upward. The reverse reveals the natural, molten finish of the enamel work over copper.
