A charming pair of early 20th century Chinoiserie decorative wall plates, each painted with lush red blossoms, trailing green foliage, and delicately rendered butterflies against a warm ivory ground. The composition has the romantic botanical quality associated with European interpretations of Asian decorative arts, while the restrained palette allows the pair to sit comfortably in a traditional interior. At just over ten inches in diameter, they are substantial enough to hang as a pair above a small chest or console, yet equally appealing incorporated into a larger plate wall alongside blue-and-white porcelain, botanical prints, and other collected ceramics.
