About the Item

Forged from thick, solid ingot silver by a master Arizona silversmith (non-Native American Jock Favour), this monumental cuff possesses an archaic, elemental energy. With its deep, unpolished patina and primitive-yet-precise silversmithing, the piece has the distinct, alluring appearance of an unearthed relic—as if it had been buried in the desert sands for decades before being brought to light. It is incredibly thick, weighty, durable, and unapologetically powerful on the wrist. At the heart of this heavy silver architecture, held securely within a traditional sawtooth bezel, is a magnificent Blue Gem turquoise cabochon. Mined near Battle Mountain, Nevada, (home of the world's rarest and most valuable turquoise variety, Lander Blue) the historic Blue Gem mine—which ceased major operations in the 1970s—yielded some of the hardest, most vividly colored turquoise ever discovered in the American Southwest. Unique among turquoise, Blue Gem is typoically found relatively deep in the earth and as a result of these geological conditions, it tends to be harder than other varieties, and is thus rarely in need of artificial stabilizing. Blue Gem is known for its exceptional density, brilliant glassy luster, and intense, deep coloration that resists fading or shifting over time, high-grade Blue Gem is legendary among gem connoisseurs. Against the dark, archaic patina of the heavy ingot silver, the stone's saturated hue is simply blinding. Because the mine has been closed for decades, natural Blue Gem cabochons of this quality and presence are exceedingly rare and fiercely coveted by serious collectors. The brilliant stone is beautifully framed by large, rustic silver spheres and heavy, hand-stamped fan flanks that perfectly balance the immense scale of the center setting. This is truly a wearable sculpture for a collector who appreciates massive scale, historical gemstone pedigree, and the raw, unrefined beauty of heavy ingot silver. The bracelet measures approximately 6.5" with a 1 ¼" opening, so it should fit a medium to large male or female wrist comfortably. It weighs 85 grams, so it feels substantive and satisfying on the wrist.
