About the Item

This gorgeous 6" beaded stretch bracelet is composed of 8 century-old hand-carved cinnabar beads, separated by eight 7.75 Siberian nephrite jade beads, each displaying light chatoyancy. (That's the fancy gemologist word for play of light, like with star sapphire or cat's eye.) Hugging either side of each exceedingly fine jade bead are a pair of 5.5mm agarwood rings. These 16 rings are also antique, well over a hundred years old each, and they represent a very high quality of agarwood. This rare, fragrant wood is also known as oud, and has been a featured ingredient in some of the world's most prized perfumes. The finest specimens sell for over $100,00 a pound. The bracelet measures 6" in length and an un-stretched diameter of 57mm, so it will fit small and medium wrists with ease. It's so comfortable to wear alone or stacked with other bracelets. This is no flimsy stretch bracelet like others you've come across. You'll appreciate the quality of this piece the moment you take it out of the box. It's a step (or three) up from stretch bracelets you've seen elsewhere. With this particular bracelet, I used two incredibly durable elastic cords, not one. This is a durable bracelet you can wear and enjoy, without having to worry about. Because of the wood accent beads, you might want to apply a light natural wax now and then. (industry insider secret: many lapidary artists use Lemon Pledge as a finishing touch and this would also help protect the wood.) About Cinnabar: it's a naturally-occurring mineral that has been carved into jewelry and decorative objects for thousands of years. Yes, it contains mercury but it safe to wear cinnabar because the mercury is only released as a vapor when heated to a high temperature. I create each jade beaded bracelet by hand, using natural and untreated Grade A jadeite jade or nephrite jade. Although I'm not including lab certificates with these bracelets to keep the cost down, all of the jade I'm using comes from my vast personal inventory of beads, all from trusted sources I have developed over many years. Beads from each source have been previously tested by a gem lab and determined to be natural and untreated. I am a gemologist with advanced training in jade as well as a second-generation jade collector. And I have sold hundreds of thousands of dollar's worth of the finest jade jewelry right here on 1stdibs since my store opened. I am a platinum seller with 100% 5-star reviews and many of my customers come back again and again. The only treatment any of the jade I sell has undergone is a paraffin waxing. Jade has been waxed for thousands of years. The last images were taken in natural light with my phone -just look at these incredible, rich colors!
