About the Item

Vintage 1990s Carl Bucherer link bracelet 18 karat gold. Can be worn alternately with alternating yellow gold and white gold links on one side and yellow gold links on the other. 0.43 inch / 11 mm wide, box clasp with safety clasp, length 7.36 inch / 18.7 cm, signed CB, Weight 25,2 grams. About Bucherer: Blending the art of jewelry-making with exquisite watchmaking expertise- The Bucherer Fine Jewelry story began in 1888 when Carl F. Bucherer opened his first jewelry and watch shop in Lucerne, Switzerland. Carl Friedrich and his wife Louise wanted to seize the opportunity offered by an influx of wealthy tourists who came from all over Europe to admire the Alps and take in the fresh mountain air. The Bucherer store rapidly became a synonym for quality and originality. In 1919, Carl Friedrich Bucherer made a pioneering decision. He became the first watch retailer to start manufacturing watches under his own name. The first watch collection was released in 1919 and aimed at women. Bucherer was also one of the first watch brands to adopt watch straps. Pocket watches were still the more popular option among men at the time in the early 20th century. Wristwatches were seen as jewelry and still not a common accessory among women. Bucherer also came up with unique watch strap/bracelet designs of its own. In 1924 Bucherer decided to sell watches made by a company owned by a certain Hans Wilsdorf. Wilsdorf had established his watch company in London in 1905 with his business partner Alfred Davis. They sold watches under the name Wilsdorf & Davis that was later changed to Rolex in 1908 as it sounded better. Since then Bucherer has been Rolex biggest retailer. Bucherer continued to sell jewelry and watches under their own brand alongside with other qualified brands and makers. Bucherer retails brands including Rolex, Carl F. Bucherer, Baume & Mercier, Blancpain, Breguet, Cartier, Chopard, Girard-Perregaux, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Longines, Oris, Panerai, Piaget, Rado, Roger Dubuis, TAG Heuer, Tissot, Tudor, Ulysse Nardin and Vacheron Constantin. Perhaps, and ultimately, what garnered Carl Friedrich’s success was not so much a case of his astute business acumen — which he certainly possessed — but of his passion for what he did. Today Bucherer is the leading and largest jeweler of watches and jewelry in Europe. In August 2023, Rolex announced that they had acquired Bucherer.
