About the Item

This antique Dutch earring is crafted in 14 karat yellow gold and dates to the mid-19th century. It is a fine example of traditional regional jewelry from the province of North Brabant, where such earrings formed part of local dress. The design features an elongated, tapering “icicle” form, suspended from a simple hook fitting. The lower section is decorated with refined cannetille work, composed of delicate wire scrolls and granulation. At the center sits an acorn-shaped element, a motif often associated with growth and prosperity, complemented by a small chain detail that adds movement to the composition. The combination of the sculptural upper form and the intricate cannetille ornamentation reflects the craftsmanship and regional character typical of Dutch jewelry from this period. The piece may be attributed to S.H. Bos of Sneek and was likely made between 1855 and 1860. The earring remains in good antique condition, with a small dent to the icicle element consistent with age and use.
