About the Item

Understated, elegant, and 600-odd years in the making. Rose gold and silver earrings were produced using an ancient Albanian technique that was brought to Palermo, Sicily, in the fifteenth century. Lever-backed and heirlooms in the making, these earrings include 5.3 carats of rose-cut white diamonds, each hand-placed into blackened .925 silver ovals which are 19.5 millimetres across and 27 millimetres in length; the earrings are 37 mm long. The band and base are 9-karat rose gold. This collection represents an art form that reflects the rich history of Sicily. In the fifteenth century, Albanian immigrants arrived in Palermo, bringing with them a unique method of jewellery-making which has become known as “cesellato”. Their descendants preserved the method over the next 600-odd years, merging it with new materials, fashions and techniques which arrived following each new invasion of the southern Italian island. The jeweller is a three-generation Sicilian family business owned and run by Simona Elia and her husband Natale Vitale. Created by Natale's grandfather, FANCS V has grown from a goldsmith shop into a design studio where Simona, who trained in Milan, contributes signature collections to complement the custom pieces Natale produces for a dedicated client base.
