In his very fertile period of 1982-1984, Robert experimented with countless variations of construction seeking new ways to make body hugging bib necklaces. This one is very early, vintage for sure, whereby a grid pattern was created using solid gold plated brass components, like these open squares, crosses with holes and feather-like forms with thin crescents cut out of them. A treasure for the dedicated collector of RLM! One of a kind prototype, this is a dazzling bold gold necklace that helped secure RLM his nation wide reputation as a leader in fashion jewelry. There is a large body of jewelry created by Robert Lee Morris called Casual Gold. They are made by rearranging the many RLM vocabulary components into new and interesting configurations. All necklaces had to be flexible, soft and moldable to the neck and shoulders. The brand style kept fresh and iconic by Robert pulling parts from the vast range of shapes and connectors, assorted castings, and carvings that became key signature elements to use in the construction of new work all the time. The pressure to create a new collection four times a year forced Robert to constantly invent new themes, directions and techniques to keep the jewelry brand alive and relevant. These bold gold necklaces are sheer fantasy, fun and the bridge between costume and designer jewelry. These pieces are called Casual Gold, and are prototypes, one of a kind experiments, and rarely made for the wholesale market.
