SKU: A30321162 At 13.50 carats, this emerald-cut tanzanite is a genuinely rare stone. Tanzanite only comes from one place on earth, a single mining area near Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, and stones of this size with strong violet-blue saturation are increasingly difficult to source. The emerald cut is the ideal vehicle for a gem like this: its long, open facets let the pleochroism work, shifting the stone from velvety blue to flashes of violet depending on the light angle. Surrounding it, 2.54ctw of round brilliant diamonds set in a close bezel halo frame the center without competing with it. The 14k white gold mounting is clean and precise. High polish throughout keeps the metal from drawing attention away from the stone, which is exactly the right call at this scale. The open filigree-style gallery back reduces weight while allowing light to pass through from behind, which feeds the tanzanite's natural depth. The lobster clasp chain is solid and lays flat at 18", putting the pendant right at the collarbone on most necklines. A piece like this is a collector's purchase. It's also a wearable one: the 18" chain and pendant proportions work with an evening neckline as naturally as they do over a simple crew neck.
