About the Item

Mounted pendant with 405 BC Athenea Pamphylia tetradrachm This genuine Ancient Greek silver tetradrachm was struck at the Pamphylia mint between 205 and 100 BC, during the Hellenistic period. Beautifully struck in fine silver, the obverse features the helmeted portrait of Athena, while the reverse depicts the winged goddess Nike, symbolizing victory. The coin is exceptionally well struck, beautifully centered, and fully detailed, displaying remarkable preservation with virtually no wear on the highest points and bold high-relief devices. The coin is mounted in a custom hand-crafted frame fashioned in solid 14-karat yellow gold with a high-polished finish and fitted with a large suspension ring, allowing it to be worn as a pendant on a chain while preserving its historical integrity. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, this impressive piece combines ancient numismatic history with fine modern goldsmithing. Silver tetradrachms were among the most important and widely circulated coins of the Hellenistic world, serving as both commercial currency and symbols of civic prestige. With its exceptional state of preservation, sharp strike, and outstanding eye appeal, this remarkable coin is equally suited for the discerning collector of ancient numismatics or as a unique wearable work of art. History of Pamphylia Pamphylia was an ancient coastal region of southern Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey), bordered by Lycia to the west and Cilicia to the east. Renowned for its prosperous ports and strategic location on the Mediterranean, the region flourished under successive Greek, Persian, and Macedonian rulers before becoming part of the Roman Republic. During the Hellenistic period, Pamphylia became an important center of commerce and culture, with cities such as Aspendos, Side, and Perge producing remarkable silver coinage. The tetradrachms struck in Pamphylia reflect the artistic excellence and economic strength of the region, often depicting Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare, and Nike, the winged goddess of victory, celebrating military success and civic pride. Today, these beautifully engraved silver coins are highly prized for their historical significance, exceptional craftsmanship, and enduring connection to the ancient Mediterranean world.
