About the Item

This is a rare and wonderful antique carved Crest Shield Victorian Etruscan Revival Locket Pendant with Banded Agate or Sardonyx gems. The locket is in the Etruscan Revival style. One side is adorned with a carved banded agate intaglio with an exquisite image of a family crest or shield in blue agate carved to a plum color agate. The crest has a tulip flower in the center with a crescent moon and sun on either side of the flower. The carved crest is absolutely exquisite. The swivel locket is also carved on the reverse with elegant initials which may be D E. The locket is in the Etruscan Revival style with beautiful hand applied micro beading along the edges and a detailed braided gold surround. The warm sumptuous gold is 16 Karat Gold with a 22 Karat Gold wash as was typical of the period. The locket opens to reveal compartments for two photos or a treasured keepsake. The locket has a swivel mechanism. The form may be familiar as Elizabeth Locke has used the design with reproduction shield intaglios in many of her pieces. Here you have the opportunity to own an original period jewel! The elegant period locket dances delightfully around the neck and creates a conversation piece to be passed on for generations. The locket dates to circa 1840 - 1890. The locket pendant is 1 1/4 inches (32 mm) long including the bale. The locket is 25mm wide. The locket is 10 mm deep. The locket compartment is 20mm by 15mm. The locket pendant weighs 12 grams. The listing is only for the locket pendant. The neck chain is only shown for display.
