This remarkable 19th-century borstzeuge, crafted in 14 karat gold, is a rare example of traditional religious jewelry from the Low Countries. The jewel is composed of three finely worked elements connected by delicate chains: an ornate upper shield, a central rosette motif, and a beautifully detailed pendant cross. The overall jewel measures an impressive 24 cm in length, with the upper shield spanning 9.2 cm wide and 4.5 cm high. Its total weight is 24.22 grams. The upper shield, richly decorated with repoussé and chased details, is adorned with floral and heart motifs, symbols of devotion and piety. Suspended below, a small central medallion anchors the piece, while the final element, a substantial Latin cross, completes its religious expression. Borstzeuge were traditional devotional jewels worn across parts of the Netherlands, Belgium, and Northern Germany from the 18th to 19th centuries.
