Kosmos Eye Ring in 18K Yellow Gold & Sapphires by SIDERAE Dimensions: D 09,6 x W 2,25 H 2,25 cm. Materials: 18K yellow gold and sapphires. Sideræ is an independent fine jewelry atelier founded by Adele Piatti and Roberto Ortenzi, working from an intimate studio near Milan. The name stems from the Latin desidera — “far from the stars” — the root of the word desire: the vital tension toward the unknown that shapes both their philosophy and their practice. During their classical goldsmithing studies in Milan, a lecturer told them that setting gemstones in molten gold was impossible. They set out to prove otherwise, independently developing Liquid Setting, a signature technique in which molten 18K gold is poured directly over sapphires, rubies and diamonds — the only stones able to withstand its heat — enveloping them like shimmering islands in a golden sea. Each piece is conceived as a miniature sculpture and handcrafted entirely in-house, from melting the gold to the final polish. Because the process embraces risk and chance, every jewel is unique and unrepeatable — even to its makers. Stones may shift, gold may flow its own way: these traces are welcomed as the marks of a piece that is imperfect, yet whole, echoing the unpredictable beauty of life.
