About the Item

A Georgian pearl, ruby and yellow gold ring, comprising one cushion shaped ruby, and four baroque pearls, in 18 karat yellow gold. This lovely Georgian ring is set to the centre with a cushion-shaped ruby. The ruby is a strong pinkish red colour and is held within a claw setting. Baroque pearls are set in a quatrefoil around the ruby, with the pearls to the top and bottom being roughly oval in shape, and the pearls to the sides being roughly round. The soft, shimmering pearls are held within closed back claw settings and are adorned with granulated beads of gold. The shoulders of the ring have an elegant scrolling design, and lead to a band of plain, polished yellow gold. Verso, the ring reveals a secret, a hidden locket compartment, covered with a circular piece of glass, behind which a panel of hair is concealed. Oftentimes, the locket sections of rings such as this have been lost, so it is a rare treat to find this intact. Likely a gift between friends or loved ones, this is not a mourning ring, rather a celebration of the giver and receivers’ relationship. For the Bridgerton fans among us, this ring is reminiscent of the ring presented to Daphne by Simon. The ring is in overall good condition, the pearls have some wrinkling as would be expected in a ring of this age. The band has been replaced at some point in the Victorian era, and there is a small amount of old solder visible upon close inspection. Wear and tear acquiescent with age. The head of the ring measures 14.3mm long, and 12.1mm wide. The band measures 1.7mm wide at the back. The ring rises 4.5mm off the finger.
