About the Item

Late Georgian Cluster Ring with Rose - Cut Diamonds Circa 1790 The ring features a central rose cut diamond (5,50X5.65mm), weighing approx. 0.50cts, surrounded by a halo of 12 smaller rose-cut diamonds weighing 0.48cts in a floral or cluster pattern, which was a popular motif during the Georgian period. Total diamond weight approx. 1 carat. Total weight: 7.35g Current ring size: (EU 60) USA 91/4 The diamonds are rose-cut, a technique commonly used before the invention of modern brilliant cuts. This cut gives a domed shape with a flat base, often with irregular facets that reflect light subtly. The darkened metal around the diamonds is silver, backed with foil to enhance sparkle in low light—another hallmark of Georgian jewelry. The shank of the ring shows signs of age and wear, with a wonderful patina, hand-carved detailing consistent with Georgian craftsmanship. Mounted in silver and 14 Karat gold. Era: • Georgian Period (1714–1830): Jewelry from this era is rare and typically handmade. Silver was commonly used for settings (especially for diamonds), and the use of foil backing was a technique to improve light reflection in candlelit settings.
