A rare and impressive men's ring featuring a prize Colombian emerald of exceptional size and coloring. This had to have been designed by an architect. The perfection in its design is startling. First and foremost, this ring is constructed around an emerald of significant size and quality: an approximately 2.50 carat (8.57mm x 7.5mm) emerald-cut emerald of Colombian origin, in the vibrant, saturated jungle-green we think of when we think of emeralds —miles away from the pale Coke-bottle-glass green beryl so frequently passed off as "emerald" in men's rings. This striking emerald has two emerald-cut diamonds flush-set right up against it on either side. This is exacting and meticulous craftsmanship on display. The diamonds are very clean and white (E/F) and weigh approximately a quarter of a carat each. The emerald and diamonds reside within a most unique architectural 18k yellow and white gold hand-fabricated setting which, in its lines, mirrors the emerald-cut facets of the emerald and is even suggestive of its shape. Turn the ring around in profile and instead of being round, it's square-ish: the shape of the emerald. When I first saw this ring I was instantly impressed by the cunning design. But it seemed impossible to actually wear. Until I slipped it on my finger. I think you'll think exactly what I thought (got that?): why aren't *all* rings this shape? It's incredibly comfortable. And it has always been one of my favorite rings. I love looking at the interior of the ring, where you can see the construction of the piece, how it has actual pillars, like a building or a bridge. It's not merely a beautifully, cleverly designed ring but it's built solidly. I appreciate that. Although the lines are Art Deco in spirit, it is my opinion that this ring was fabricated by hand circa 1960s-1980s. I've consulted numerous colleagues and the fact is, the quality of the workmanship, the classic cutting of the stones, the high quality of the stones themselves—it could be Art Deco. The main reason I believe it's a bit later is that emeralds are rather fragile and this one has no chips or softening of the facets. Finding a men's ring with a large Colombian emerald of fine color is not a simple task. All the best emeralds are reserved for women—as it should be, as long as we guys get at least one or two good ones. This would make a fine engagement ring or wedding band alternative for the guy who wanted something more interesting than a plain band. It weighs 14 grams. It is hallmarked 750 for metal fineness and there is a maker's mark which I have been unable to trace. It's most likely of South American origin. This ring is a size 10, has never been resized. Your local jeweler could resize it if she is skilled and the size increase or decrease is modest. This ring ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the Emerald has a Colombian origin.
