About the Item

Period: Circa 350-220 BC Size: 7 Weight: 6,82 gr The ring features a contemporary 18-karat yellow gold frame featuring an ancient Greek coin dating between 350 and 220 BC. This coin, in particular, was minted in the Greek colony of Massalia, a city that corresponds to today's Marseille: these coins usually featured the iconography of Artemis or Apollo, as in the aforementioned case, where it is possible to recognize the profile of the sun god, also considered the protector of navigators and, therefore, his effigy was necessary to evoke protection and prosperity for Massalia's flourishing maritime trade. Despite the antiquity of the coin and the fact that it was used not only as a commercial exchange, but also as a votive gift, it is interesting to see its excellent conservative state, which still allows for full and easy reading today.
