About the Item

A pair of George III silver tureens by Philip Rundell, each in oval shape with fluted body and engraved crest, the handles with two lion heads, with ribbed oval pedestal foot and the rim with foliate decorations, the lid of matching design with an acanthus handle, hallmarked sterling silver, London 1820, bearing Philip Rundell’s sponsor mark, each measuring approximately 23cm x 18cm x 13cm, gross weight 68.7 troy ounces A classic pair of silver tureens offered at Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to His Majesty the King. Made by Phillip Rundell, a prosperous royal silversmith whose firm flourished and grew under the patronage of Prince Regent. These wonderful tureens reflect the increasing interest in classical themes at the time, with their decorative acanthus leaf handles and foliate borders. These tureens would make a wonderful addition to a formal dinner set.
