About the Item

Portuguese silver salver from the D. Maria I period, dating to the early 19th century, crafted in 833‰ silver. Bearing the Lisbon assay mark (1810–1822) and attributable to the silversmith António José da Mota (active 1802–1822), the piece reflects the restrained elegance characteristic of the transitional period between late Baroque and early Neoclassical taste. The circular form is defined by a plain, gently raised border with subtle moulded detailing, framing a smooth central field that emphasizes proportion and balance over ornament. Measuring 17.5 cm in diameter, this salver embodies a refined simplicity and functional clarity. A fine example of Portuguese silverwork, valued for its historical marks, harmonious design, and understated sophistication.
