About the Item

This striking antique 14K Yellow Gold Lady’s Hunting Watch w/Fob by Waltham Watch Co. 1888 retains its original gold case, movement and dial work, an exquisite addition to a collection of fine antique watches. This would be great as a necklace as well. The ornate back cover features a top view of a bouquet composed of a single Tulip and three Poppies. Sharing the same scalloped inner border as the front, the outer border is composed of tessellated quails in stunning line work with a zig-zag textured outer edge. The front cover features a heraldic shield form insignia accented with foglia detailing, left blank for a Monogram or custom inscription. Scalloped border surrounds the shield design, composed of a tessellated patterning executed in stunning hatch-work depicting feathers writhing with movement around numerous nimbly depicted quails, their bodies just discernible beneath the feathers. A 14 Karat chain and t-bar are an addition to this watch made in 1916. The top clasp and bottom hinge have clean seriffed line work lending to a classic and feminine hunting watch silhouette. The crown features vertical textured striations and a loop known as the “bow” from which the watch fob attaches with a seamless spring action clasp. One views the time by depressing the crown, displaying the white dial with Roman Numerals and iridescent blue metallic finish on the minute, hour and second hands, all in horizontal orientation.
