About the Item

This exquisite hand-painted Mayadevi Thangka is crafted on canvas and adorned with delicate 24K gold accents, beautifully framed in a traditional brocade border and protected with a dust cover. The painting depicts Queen Mayadevi, the birth mother of Gautama Buddha, at the sacred moment of Siddhartha’s birth. She is portrayed in a graceful standing posture, holding a tree branch above her—a symbolic and iconic representation found in Buddhist art. According to tradition, divine beings from the three realms—Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva—descended to स्वागत the newborn. It is believed that immediately after his birth, the infant Buddha took seven steps, and with each step, lotus flowers blossomed beneath his feet. This miraculous event is regarded as the first of many wonders in the Buddha’s life. The birth scene is a significant and widely depicted narrative across Buddhist sites, often following the dream of Mayadevi. In this composition, Mayadevi is accompanied by Prajapati Gautami, adding depth and context to the sacred moment. A complimentary booklet detailing the intricate process of Thangka creation is included with your purchase, offering insight into the artistry and tradition behind this remarkable piece.
