About the Item

Created in 1869 by British Naval Officer a woolie of H.M.S Volage which was built for the Royal Navy in the late 1860s and was assigned to the Flying Squandron circumnavigating the world and later carried a party of astronomers to the Kerguelen Islands to observe the transit of Venus in 1874. There is some discoloration and tearing of the wool that has come with natural aging and comes in original maple wood frame
